How to print an end-of-day report in Shopify
Until May 2025, the admin printed a one-page Financial Summary: the day's sales, payments and tax on one sheet. It was replaced by an on-screen Finances summary that does not print as one page. A thread asking for the printed page back on Shopify's community forum has 86 posts. These are the ways to get a day's figures on paper now, free ones first.
1. The Finances summary, on screen
In the admin, open Analytics, then Reports, then Finances summary, and set the date range to the day. The figures are all there: gross sales, discounts, returns, net sales, shipping, taxes and total sales. What is missing is the one printed page. For a day's record, people take a screenshot or copy the lines they need. What gross, net and total sales each mean.
2. A custom report
On some Shopify plans, a report can be built and saved with exactly the columns you want, then exported. Shopify's help lists which plans can save custom reports. Built once, it gives the same columns every day, as a table rather than a summary page.
3. The POS register session
On Shopify POS, closing a register session gives a summary of the cash drawer: the float, what was expected and what was counted. That closes the drawer. It does not split the day's sales into taxable and non-taxable, so stores that need that sheet have built it another way.
4. By hand
Some owners copy figures from several reports into a spreadsheet at the end of each day. One describes opening about nine reports, close to forty minutes a day. Another works out non-taxable sales from the tax total by dividing it by the tax rate, which only works when every taxable sale has the same rate.
5. Close of Day
We built Close of Day to give the one page back: a store's money for a day or a month, per location, to print, save as a PDF or CSV, or receive by email each morning. It shows sales, payments by method, gift cards and tips set apart, tax by rate, and cash drawers on locations with POS Pro. Each line follows Shopify's own definition, worked out here. It costs $9 a month after a 14-day free trial, billed by Shopify. It is not yet on the Shopify App Store. More about Close of Day.
