Print a daily sales summary from Shopify's orders export
Every Shopify store can export its orders as a CSV file. Open that file here and you get one page for each day it covers: orders, subtotal, discounts, shipping, tax by name, total, refunds and payment method, ready to print. It is free. The file is read by your own browser and is not uploaded anywhere.
1. Export your orders
- In the Shopify admin, go to Orders and click Export.
- Choose which orders to export. For a set of days, pick Orders by date and set the first and last day.
- Under Export as, pick a CSV format, then click Export orders. Transaction histories are a different file and will not work here.
Up to 50 orders, or the page of orders on screen, download straight away. A larger export, or one by date, is emailed to you and the store owner instead.
See what the file looks like: a sample export.
2. Open the file
This tool needs JavaScript, which is off or blocked in this browser. The steps above and the notes below still apply; turn JavaScript on for this page to open a file.
What an export cannot tell you
- Refunds sit on the order's row, not on the day they happened. A refund given today on last week's order shows under last week's day here.
- Each order has one payment method string, not each payment. An order paid partly by gift card shows its whole total under a line such as "Gift Card + Shopify Payments", as the file writes it, not split between the two.
- Dates are as the file writes them. Each order goes under the date part of its Created at column, with no time zone conversion.
Cancelled orders are listed under their day and left out of every figure. A file with more than one currency is not added up.
Close of Day
We built Close of Day to give the one page back without an export: a store's money for a day or a month, per location, to print, save as a PDF or CSV, or receive by email each morning. Returns are dated on the day they were processed, not the day of the order, and payments by method show what was collected, what was refunded and the net. Each line follows Shopify's own definition, worked out here. It costs $9 a month after a 14-day free trial, billed by Shopify. It is not yet on the Shopify App Store. More about Close of Day.
